Superyacht training roadmaps

Course pages tell you what one certificate costs. This tells you the whole sequence for a specific ticket — in order, real prices compared across providers, and what it adds up to start to finish.

Total for these 10 steps + ENG1

£12,938

3 of 10 steps priced natively in GBP; the rest are converted from the cheapest real option in another currency (GBP→USD ≈1.30, EUR→USD ≈1.10 (mid-2026 approx)) and marked ≈ above.

ENG1 medical certificate: £115 / €140 / $150 typical range at approved clinics in france and spain (e.g. antibes, palma) — not one provider's exact price; the GBP figure is the MCA's own published maximum. See our ENG1 guide.

Also required, but not a course to book

  • 36 months onboard yacht service

Including at least 12 months on vessels 15m+ in load line length, per MCA requirements.

  • MCA oral examination

The actual final step, sat after completing OOW Oral Prep. Not itself a bookable course.

Course sequence reflects the MCA's published OOW Yacht <3000GT prerequisite chain, cross-checked against multiple providers' own prerequisite listings for each step. Every step shows its cheapest real price in whichever currency you pick — where a step isn't natively priced in that currency by any provider we track, it's converted from the cheapest real option elsewhere and marked ≈.

Junior Deckhand

The minimum real starting point for a first deck job, plus the optional extra that helps you get hired

No formal certificate — a real hiring-ready starting point

Prices shown in

  1. 1

    STCW Basic Safety Training

    £850
  2. 2

    RYA Powerboat Level 2

    £290
  3. 3

    RYA Yachtmaster Coastal/Offshore Theory (optional)

    Optional
    £930

Not MCA-required for a first deck job, but a standard RYA Yachtmaster (not the commercial MCA ticket) genuinely helps green deckhands get hired.

  4. 4

    RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Practical (optional)

    Optional
    £1,718

Total for these 2 steps + ENG1

£1,255

All 2 steps priced natively in GBP — nothing converted.

ENG1 medical certificate: £115 / €140 / $150 typical range at approved clinics in france and spain (e.g. antibes, palma) — not one provider's exact price; the GBP figure is the MCA's own published maximum. See our ENG1 guide.

This is a starting point, not an MCA-mandated sequence — STCW Basic Safety Training and ENG1 are the two near-universal requirements for any first deck job, RYA Powerboat Level 2 is commonly expected too, and a standard RYA Yachtmaster (distinct from the commercial MCA OOW route above) is optional but a well-known hiring edge for entry-level deckhands. Every step shows its cheapest real price in whichever currency you pick — converted from elsewhere and marked ≈ where a step isn't natively priced in that currency. See our full guide to RYA Yachtmaster for more on that distinction.

Every course above is sourced and priced the same way as the rest of the site — see each course's provider page for the school's own listing. Prices and course order can change; confirm current details directly with the provider before booking.
